Intertype installs world first Iridesse combination

15 Jan 2019 |  Paul Brescia   |   Comment Now

Burwood, Melbourne-based printer Intertype has installed a Fuji Xerox Iridesse press, becoming the first printer worldwide to combine it with Color-Logic for metallic printing effects.

Ian Bosler is the CEO of Intertype, and founded the business in 2004. He explains, “The Iridesse went in just before Christmas, and it replaces our 1000i, which we have swapped out. We wanted one digital metallic colour platform, to avoid colour variance between the two due to slightly different technologies, which is anathema to our philosophy of brand consistency.

“We also manufacture our own ring binders and tab dividers, and do our own printing under the one roof.

“We started off life focused on marketing and sales support services, while doing our own digital printing. At the time, digital printers could not manage colour and branding, so we did it ourselves, working closely with clients.

“Brand integrity is important for us, so to get that quality of print we had to do it ourselves.”

Intertype was among the first in the world to be colour certified with Color-Logic across the Fuji Xerox 1000i.

“It made sense for us to go with Color-Logic again, so once more we are first in the world to do so, this time for the Iridesse press.

“For our sheetfed, we have always been a Fuji-Xerox shop.

“Running the Iridesse, comparing it the 1000i, the intensity of the gold and silver is noticeable. We also have the ability to print white, which gives our customers access to great creative licence.

“With the Iridesse, we can print metallic colours underneath CMYK, in a much more accurate, and registered way compared to what we were doing before.

“We have also configured it with inline finishing including scoring, punching, saddle stitching, and square folding, giving us a lot of productivity gains. That is fully supported and integrated through Fuji-Xerox.

“We have also noticed with the Iridesse is that it handles vignettes beautifully, removing the steppiness in printing that can occur.”

As for why Intertype selected Color-Logic along with the Iridesse, Bosler explains, “Color-Logic allows us to unlock more advanced metallic printing. When you put the metallics, particularly the silver, under CMYK, you create a whole new colour gamut. Color-Logic improves our consistency with colour, allowing us to quickly create new ranges of metallic colour.

“It opens up the creative possibilities for our customers.

“When it came to metallics, and the way we needed them to run, there was no option outside of the Iridesse. We like to keep to a common platform also, which made the choice easier.

“We currently have nine staff, and can flex up with specific projects when needed, but typically stay around nine, with a peak of 23 on a major project we completed.”

Mark Geeves, director of sales and marketing, Color-Logic, says, "Color-Logic is fast becoming the preferred process of Iridesse press users around the world. Intertype previously used Color-Logic on a Fuji Xerox Color 1000i press, so the transition to their new Fuji Xerox Iridesse was effortless.  The company finds many customers for their metallic print offerings."
